Admiralty & Shipping

Our Admiralty & Shipping practice handles both contentious and non-contentious areas in all areas of shipping including marine insurance. On the non-contentious areas, we handle ship registration, vessel/asset financing, joint ventures, drafting and negotiation of fixtures and charterparties, drafting of bills of lading, due diligence in shipping companies. Our head of department is the author of the Forms and Precedents on Shipping, a practitioner’s reference by Lexis Nexis as well as the annotation of Malaysian laws on Shipping ie. Merchant Shipping Ordinance, Carriers [land, air and sea] and has argued the inaugural reported case of the Malaysian Admiralty Court. We have been involved in several of large corporate shipping transactions.

In the contentious areas we handle ship / vessel arrest, Mareva Injunctions, inquiries by the Marine Department, Department of Environment and we regularly handle cases from the lower courts until the apex Federal Court. We handle ship collisions & casualties, marine hull and cargo claims, general average and salvage claims and disputes, pursuit and defence of cargo claims, P & I claims, crew wage claims, bunkering claims and disputes, maritime arbitration.
