Azmi & Associates places a high value on growth and innovation. As such, the Firm recently enlisted Mohd Shah Bin Hashim as our new Senior Counsel/Senior Associate 1. Mohd Shah obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand and is a Barrister & Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand. He was called to the Malaysian Bar in September 1984 and was in private practice in the areas of Commercial Litigation, Corporate and Private Conveyancing, Banking Documentations, Government Licensing and Private Clients.
Mohd Shah Bin Hashim joined Nestle Malaysia as a Legal Manager In September 1996 and was appointed as the Head of the Legal Department of the Nestle Group of Companies for Malaysia and Singapore in 1998. Mohd Shah was the Executive Director, Legal & Secretarial of the Nestle Group of Companies until 30 June 2013.
Mohd Shah served as the Company Secretary of Nestle (Malaysia) Berhad and all of its subsidiaries and associated companies. He advised the Board of Directors on all matters related to compliance, governance and integrity aspects of the business. In 2011/2012, he was instrumental in the setting up of a comprehensive and all-encompassing Corporate Compliance Framework for the Nestle Group of Companies in Malaysia and Singapore.
Azmi & Associates takes its corporate social responsibility very seriously and. as such. undertakes the role of industry mentor for selected local law school. As part of the Firm's role as an industry mentor, Azmi & Associates has sponsored Law Prize at MMU Law Faculty to acknowledge young achievers who have excelled in their law studies.
This law prize was awarded in MMU'S Convocation dinner which was held on 5 September 2015 at Shangri-La Putrajaya. This law prize was presented by Dato' Azmi Mohd Ali, the Senior Partner of Azmi & Associates.
We are delighted to announce the winner of the Azmi & Associates prize for Equity and Trusts for year 201 5 is Miss Chew Yi Ling. The Firm would like to congratulate Miss Chew on her great achievement. Best wishes are also offered to all students at MMU Law Faculty. who are to be commended for advancing towards promising legal careers.
In line with Azmi & Associates' strategy to expand the Firm's aviation practice, the Firm took the initiative to organize an Executive Briefing on "Aircraft Financing - Issues, Tips and Pointers".
The briefing was held on 2nd September 2015 at the Firm's 13th Floor Conference Room and handled by the corporate Partner, Norhisham Abd. Bahrin and assisted by his associate, Nazwan Kamal. The briefing was attended by bankers and AirAsia X Berhad.The workshop addressed vital issues on aircraft financing and key contractual concerns. The first part handled mainly by Norhisham focused on the various methods of financing a civil aircraft, mainly, sale and leaseback, operating and financing lease, refinancing of an aircraft and its condition precedents.
Azmi & Associates' commitment to corporate social responsibility constitutes a significant portion of the Flf'm's practice. As part of its corporate social responsibility, Azmi & Associates just like previous years, was once again present at Taylor's University Lakeside Campus this year for the Taylor's Law School Academic Award Ceremony.
This Academic Award Ceremony was held on 28 August 2015 at Taylor's University Lakeside Campus. In this event, awards were presented to law students who EMIC have achieved top marks in their examinations and who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.

Azmi & Associates has always maintained an international outlook and presence with our strong network of contacts within the international law firms, our membership in Terralex and First Law.
To strengthen our international presence and our capability to act outside Malaysia, our Head of Shipping, International Trade and Insurance Practice, Mr. Philip Teoh, visited the international law firms in London and Paris in August.
This European trip was an important one for renewal of friendships and making new ones. The Practice of International Trade, Shipping and Cross-Border Transactions, requires the maintaining of strong networks and contacts.
In line with the valued vision of supporting our clientsâ€™ pursuit of penetrating new markets, the Firmâ€™s Senior Partner, Datoâ€™ Azmi Mohd Ali had recently made a visit to one of the rising powers in the Central Asian market, Kazakhstan.
After a promising visit to the same region of Astana and Almaty in the third quarter of 2014 by another partner of the Firm, Norhisham and two other lawyers, Datoâ€™ Azmi was keen on broadening relationships and engaging new networks with key legal associates in a country with the largest and stringest performing economy in Central Asia.
Priotising the agenda of establishing a foundation for sharing of expertise and experience as well as seeking potential synergies, the Firmâ€™s trip to Kazakhstan comprised of 2 main visits to longstanding firms, Colibri and Linkage & Mind. During the visit to Colibri, Datoâ€™ Azmi was hosted by Mr. Umid Aripdjanov, a partner of the firm. With more than 15 yearsâ€™ of experience and leading the firmâ€™s energy practice group, the meeting between two partners brought forth a vibrant exchange of knowledge and propositions on productivity.
Azmi & Associates was once again awarded with the Employer of Choice Award for Malaysian legal market for year 2015. This is the Firmâ€™s sixth consecutive award since 2010. A lawyer praises the Firm for providing â€śadequate space and (the right) environment for me to live my passion as a commercial lawyerâ€ť. Other winners of the award include Tay & Partners and Wong & Partners.
In 2014, the Financial Times (FT) Asia Pacific Innovative Lawyers Awards was officially birthed into fruition, to measure lawyers based on the real value of the work and service they were providing to furthering the interests of the clients, the firms and the legal profession itself.
FT Asia Pacific Innovative Lawyers Awards has worked in tandem with its research partner, RSG Consulting, to conduct client, expert and lawyer interviews to establish the appropriate and accurate ranking of the respective law firms. This process incorporated among 400 individual submissions from 81 different regional firms in 13 different countries. This would indirectly make it one of the most thorough, detailed and well-researched virtual window into the current Asia Pacific legal market.
