Malaysia Welcomes New Chief Justice

On 1 April 2017, The Right Honourable Justice Tan Sri Dato' Seri Md Raus Sharif was appointed as the new Chief Justice of Malaysia.

His Lordship succeeds Tun Arifin Zakaria who retired on 31 March 2017. His Lordship’s appointment was consented by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V, as per clause (1), Article 122B of the Federal Constitution on the advice of the Prime Minister and after consultation with the Conference of Rulers.

The Right Honourable Justice Tan Sri Dato' Seri Md Raus Sharif was born on 4th February 1951 in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan. His Lordship’s formal education began at Sekolah Rendah Kampung Astana Raja, Rembau, Negeri Sembilan before His Lordship went on to attend Sekolah Menengah Tunku Besar Tampin for his secondary education. His Lordship then completed his form six at Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR), lpoh, Perak.

 

The Right Honourable Justice Raus Sharif graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Malaya in 1976 and is the pioneer class of law students of the University of Malaya. His Lordship subsequently obtained a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics in 1987.

As with the nation, Azmi & Associates would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to His Lordship on His Lordship’s appointment as the new Chief Justice of Malaysia.

We pray that under the tenure of His Lordship as the Chief Justice of Malaysia, the Nation will be blessed with greater strengthening and independence of the Judiciary and continued upholding of the rule of law.
