The Firm’s Managing Partner who is also the Head, Global Financial Services & Islamic Banking practice, Ahmad Lutfi Abdull Mutalip attended the Terralex Annual General Meeting in New York City, USA from 21 September 2016 to 24 September 2016. This year also marks the 25th Anniversary of the second largest legal network in the world and the theme chosen was “25 Years of Seamless Services”.

From a humble beginning with only 22 firms in 20 countries in 1991, Terralex has grown leaps and bounds to where it is today with 146 firms in 101 countries with 19,000 lawyers. The purpose of this Terralex network of friendly law firms is one: To serve clients seamlessly wherever they are.

Azmi & Associates is indeed honoured to be admitted as the sole Malaysian representative of Terralex since 2001 although the Firm only actively participated in the network from 2004 onwards when we attended the meeting in Seoul, South Korea.

We can attest that the clients of the Firm have benefitted immensely from our association in this network, especially in terms of work coordination in multijurisdictional exercises.

Apart from celebrating the 25th Anniversary, the New York City meeting also discussed the challenges facing legal industry globally, for instance, the technology revolution and how it may affect law firms’ business, heightened demands from clients for law firms to offer not just legal services but to be a one-stop business advisory outfit, talent development, to name a few.

At the side line of the meeting, Asia-Pacific member firms also gathered to develop a comprehensive strategy in providing more integrated services to clients within the region.

It was indeed a productive meeting where friendship amongst friends in the network was refreshed and new friends were made. The meeting was co-hosted by four noted American law firms, namely Duane Morris, Nixon Peabody, Troutman Sanders and Wiggin And Dana.
